Day Shift: Jamie Foxx Leads Netflix’s Vampire Hunter Film

Coming off from starring in Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman’s superhero film Project Power, it looks like Oscar winner Jamie Foxx has already set up his next Netflix project as he officially signs on for the leading role in the upcoming vampire hunter film titled Day Shift. On top of headlining, Foxx is also set as an executive producer. The film hails from John Wick director Chad Stahelski who is serving as a producer through his 87Eleven Entertainment.

Day Shift centers around the story of a hard-working blue-collar dad who just wants to provide a good life for his quick-witted 8-year old daughter, but his mundane San Fernando Valley pool cleaning job is a front for his real source of income, hunting and killing vampires.

“‘Day Shift’ is a pulse-pounding thrill ride with action, danger and grounded comedy mixed with a deep mythology, the key ingredients for the absolute best time you can have watching a movie,” producer Shaun Redick said in a statement (via The Wrap). “We couldn’t be more excited about producing this at Netflix with Jamie Foxx starring!”

Stahelski added, “I’ve known and worked with JJ for a long time. His unique vision of ‘Day Shift’ makes it such a great first directorial project for him.”

Day Shift will be the feature directorial debut of J.J. Perry who will direct from a screenplay written by Shay Hatten (John Wick 3 & 4, Army of the Dead) based on the original script penned by Tyler Tice. The film will be produced by Stahelski and Jason Spitz for 87Eleven Entertainment along with Impossible Dream Entertainment’s Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick. It will be executive produced by Foxx, Datari Turner, and Peter Baxter.

This marks Foxx’s third project that he is currently working on with Netflix after recently signing on to star opposite John Boyega and Teyonah Parris in the upcoming sci-fi film They Cloned Tyrone. The 52-year-old actor will next be seen in Pixar’s Soul, Blumhouse’s Spawn, and in Marvel Studios’ highly-anticipated third Spider-Man MCU film.
