Netflix in Final Talks to Acquire The Woman in the Window

The Amy Adams-starring adaptation of The Woman in the Window has had a rough road to its release, being delayed multiple times due to both negative test screenings and the global pandemic, and now it appears it has found its salvation as Netflix has entered final talks to acquire the psychological thriller, according to Deadline.

Originally scheduled for October 2019 and May 2020 releases, the film was pushed back the first time due to test audiences’ negative response to the third act of the story and subsequently delayed as theaters around the world shuttered amdist the global pandemic. It was set to be the final theatrical release for Fox 2000 Pictures, the iconic label that is being shuttered following the film’s release due to Walt Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

Should the deal go through, it will also be the latest major studio title to head to a streaming service as theaters struggle to reopen with recent spikes in disease cases, with some others in recent months including Paramount selling both The Lovebirds and The Trial of the Chicago 7 to Netflix, as well as skipping a global theatrical release for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in favor of a VOD release on CBS All Access in early 2021, while recently acquiring Legendary Entertainment’s Enola Holmes.
