Watched at Home: Top 20 Streaming Films for Week of May 1

Welcome back, fellow couch potatoes. It’s time to take a look at what you streamed this week. I gotta say, the results are kinda underwhelming in that we have a lot of mainstays and very few newbies. I suppose that’s to be expected in a time featuring absolutely zero new releases.

Will Smith/Martin Lawrence’s actioner Bad Boys for Life held onto the crown for the second week in a row. Can we give it up for Smith, who has two flicks in the Top 20 if you count his animated flick Spies in Disguise? (Weird that no one talks about how Spies only raked in $171 million worldwide against a $100 million budget but consider Smith’s Gemini Man an enormous box office bomb even though it grossed the same amount on a $138 million budget. Someone explain this to me.)

Sonic the Hedgehog clambered all the way up from No. 4 to reach No. 2, leapfrogging former No. 1 champ, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which had to settle for No. 3. Jumanji: The Next Level also moved up a spot to No. 4, while The Gentlemen has started to descend after spending a week in the Top 3.

Nothing else changes too much save for the appearance of Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge and the reemergence of Frozen II and Fantasy Island. Both films fell out of the Top 20 last week, but have battled back to reach No. 19 and No. 20, respectively. That means we lost Ford v. Ferrari and (unless my eyes are deceiving me) the drama Just Mercy.

Birds of Prey has hung around for a while, which I consider good news because, well, despite its flaws, the Harley Quinn solo outing was still an entertaining ride. Of course, these lists don’t necessarily reflect film quality. I mean, the Vin Diesel stinker Bloodshot is still lingering in the Top 15 for God’s sake. Let’s do better, people!
