Netflix’s Spenser Confidential Most Viewed Content as Streaming Surges

Deadline brings word that Nielsen has reported a surge of 50% in viewers streaming content in the U.S. (based on minutes spent streaming) which is up for the week of March 16 from the previous year. Additionally, Netflix’s Spenser Confidential, starring Mark Wahlberg, was the most viewed content on streaming for the week of March 16, followed by Netflix’s The Office.

Streaming has obviously increased steadily over the past four weeks, according to Nielsen, and currently stands at 23% of all viewing occurring on televisions as of the week of March 16. A year ago, it was at 14%.

During the week, Netflix’s led streaming content with 29%, followed by YouTube at 20%, Hulu at 10%, and Amazon Prime Video at 9%.

In Spenser Confidential, ex-cop Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) teams up with his no-nonsense roommate, Hawk (Winston Duke), to take down criminals in this action-comedy.

Inspired by Robert B. Parker’s Wonderland, a best-selling novel by Ace Atkins, The film follows Spenser (Mark Wahlberg) — an ex-cop better known for making trouble than solving it — just got out of prison and is leaving Boston for good. But first, he gets roped into helping his old boxing coach and mentor, Henry, with a promising amateur. That’s Hawk, a brash, no-nonsense MMA fighter convinced he’ll be a tougher opponent than Spenser ever was. When two of Spenser’s former colleagues turn up murdered, he recruits Hawk and his foul-mouthed ex-girlfriend, Cissy, to help him investigate and bring the culprits to justice.

Spenser Confidential (formerly titled as Wonderland) stars Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, The Departed, Mile 22) as the titular ex-cop, Winston Duke (Black PantherUs) as Hawk, Post Malone, Alan Arkin (Dumbo) as Henry Cimoli, Iliza Shlesinger (Instant Family) as Cissy, Cassie Ventura as Elise, Bookem Woodbine (Overlord) and James DuMont (Patriots Day).

The film is directed by Peter Berg (Friday Night LightsPatriots DayDeepwater Horizon) directing from an adapted script by Sean O’Keefe. Wahlberg will also produce the feature alongside Berg via his Film 44 banner, Neal H. Moritz via his Original Film banner and Stephen Levinson. Film 44’s John Logan Pierson will executive produce alongside Toby Ascher.
