Damon Lindelof Interested in Doing an MCU or Star Wars Project

Following the critical success of HBO’s superhero drama miniseries Watchmen, it looks like acclaimed series creator Damon Lindelof has set his sights on another potential big project. Speaking with Fandom, Lindelof has revealed that he’s definitely interested in working on a project in the Marvel Cinematic Universe because he’s impressed with the experimental direction that the franchise is currently heading to. That’s why he would like to do an MCU project, particularly something like Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series WandaVision.

“I think that doing something in the Marvel universe, anywhere in the Marvel Universe, would be really potentially exciting for me, especially as they start to get a little bit more experimental,” Lindelof said. “Some of the things that I’ve seen for ‘WandaVision,’ for example, just feel like, ‘Okay, now we’re getting somewhere.’ Particularly in a television space.”

In addition, Lindelof, who is also known for producing the latest Star Trek films, had also expressed his interest in doing a Star Wars project in the future where everything would have already settled with his friend and long-time collaborator J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars films. “And, at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the ‘Star Wars’ universe. Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”

Set in the 1950s, WandaVision will follow the story of Elizabeth Olson and Paul Bettany’s superhero characters Scarlet Witch and Vision. The series blends the style of classic sitcoms with the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which Wanda Maximoff and Vision—two super-powered beings living their ideal suburban lives—begin to suspect that everything is not as it seems.

It has also been confirmed through previously released set photos that the series will be featuring the Sentient World Observation and Response Department or better known as S.W.O.R.D. which is a subdivision of S.H.I.E.L.D. that deals with alien threats that jeopardize world security.  However, it is still unclear whether prominent S.W.O.R.D. members such as S.W.O.R.D. leader Abigail Brand will also appear in the series or not but this would definitely mark the live-action debut of the department and the first Marvel property from the Fox-Disney merger that will be integrated into Marvel Studios’ Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The series will also see the return of Kat Dennings to the MCU, reprising her role as Darcy Lewis which she last portrayed in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World along with Randall Park returning as FBI Agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp. It will also feature MCU newcomers Kathryn Hahn and Teyonah Parris as the grown-up version of Monica Rambeau, a character who first made her appearance in last year’s Captain Marvel.

Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel) serving as the series’ producer, showrunner and head writer. Matt Shakman is directing the series.
