My Lovely Wife: Amazon Studios Acquires Samantha Downing’s Bestseller
Deadline is reporting that Amazon Studios has acquired movie rights to My Lovely Wife, the bestselling novel by Samantha Downing. Amazon has partnered with Nicole Kidman’s Blossom Films on the project.
The novel is described as a darkly comedic psychological thriller that explores the modern impulses of human nature. The principal characters are Tobias and his lovely wife, Millicent, who seem to be leading the perfect life with home and family. But they harbor a dark secret: husband has been helping his wife with her penchant for serial murdering. But when one of their victims is discovered, hubby realizes his lovely wife may not be as trustworthy as he had thought.
Blossom Films’ previous projected have included the Emmy Award-winning series Big Little Lies, co-starring Kidman, as well as the David E. Kelley limited series The Undoing with Kidman also starring for the HBO project. The company is adapting Janet Y.K. Lee’s novel The Expatriates into a limited series, which will serve as the first project under Blossom’s Amazon deal.
My Lovely Wife became an international bestseller and was published in 23 countries. The book received a Best First Novel nomination for the 2020 Edgar Award. Downing’s second novel, He Started It, will be published on April 28, 2020, by Penguin Random House.
