Cynthia Erivo To Reprise Podcast Role For Amblin’s Sci-Fi Thriller Carrier

After scoring two Oscar nominations for her work in the historical biopic Harriet, Cynthia Erivo has found her next project in Amblin’s big-screen adaptation of the sci-fi thriller podcast Carrier, in which she will reprise her role, according to Deadline.

The film, written and directed by creator Dan Blank, will follow Raylene (Erivo), a truck driver who takes an off-the-books job to cover for her ailing father, but during the long haul comes to realize that her mysterious cargo is much more dangerous to the world and must fight against various groups targeting to control or destroy it.

The project will be produced by Erivo alongside Automatik’s Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Midnight Special) and QCode partner Rob Herting, with Fred Berger and David Henning set to executive produce. Amblin’s President of Production Jeb Brody and Creative Executive John Buderwitz will oversee the project for the studio.

“A great story can transcend its medium to find new forms and new audiences,” Brody said. “Cynthia, Dan and QCode created a gripping and entertaining podcast that deserved all the praise and attention it garnered. We can’t wait to work with them to tell this story in its next evolution.”

“It’s an absolute pleasure to be able to bring this podcast to the screen and marks the beginning of a new adventure in creativity for me as a producer,” Erivo said.

The past two years have seen Erivo blazing a path on both the big and small screens, making her film debut in 2018’s acclaimed heist thriller Widows and following it up with well-received roles in the crime thriller Bad Times at the El Royale and HBO’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel The Outsider. She will next be seen in the long-delayed sci-fi drama Chaos Walking, which recently landed a 2021 release, and the next season of the National Geographic anthology biography series Genius, in which she will lead as Aretha Franklin.
