Warner Bros. Sets Release Dates for The Flash, Matrix 4 and More

Warner Bros. Pictures has officially announced the release dates for their upcoming high-profile films including: the long-in development The Flash movie, the highly-anticipated fourth installment to The Matrix films which will see the return of Keanu Reeves as Neo, and Ryan Coogler’s untitled Fred Hampton film.

The live-action version of Akira, which was orignally set to be helmed by Taika Waititi but now appears to be in limbo, has moved from 05/21/21 to “unset.”

In addition, the studio has also revealed two new release dates for two untitled projects which are set on January 15, 2021 and March 5, 2021. Warner Bros. has also changed the release date for James Wan’s live-action Mortal Kombat film which is now set to hit the theaters on an earlier date on January 15, 2021.

Set to be directed by IT‘s Andy Muschietti, the Ezra Miller-led Flash movie is now scheduled to be released on July 1, 2022. Miller first portrayed the scarlet speedster in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Production on The Matrix 4 is expected to begin in early next year for a May 21, 2021 release. The fourth installment will be directed by David Mitchell from a script co-written by Lana Wachowski and Aleksander Hemon. It will also feature the return of Carrie-Anne Moss with newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff and Toby Onwumere.

The untitled Ryan Coogler-produced film centered on the rise and assassination of Black Panther Fred Hampton will be making its debut next year on August 21, 2020. Directed by Shaka King (High Maintenance), the film will be led by Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out) and Lakeith Stanfield (Atlanta).
