Ben Affleck to star in Robert Rodriguez’s action-thriller Hypnotic
Deadline reports that two-time Academy Award winner Ben Affleck (Good Will Hunting, Argo) has officially signed on for the leading role in director Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming action-thriller movie titled Hypnotic. Production is expected to start in April with the producers changing pre-planned production dates in consideration of Affleck’s current busy schedule.
“Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including Argo and The Town, I have seen how his versatility and creativity has made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera,” Jeff Robinov said in a statement. “It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”
In Hypnotic, Affleck is set to portray the role of a detective who becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program, while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.
The film is written and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel). It is a co-production between Studio 8 and Solstice Studios with Rodriguez, Studio 8 CEO Jeff Robinov, Guy Danella and John Graham serving as producers. Solstice will be handling the film’s US theatrical distribution rights.
The project will be a part of Affleck’s growing slate of upcoming films such as the sports drama The Way Back which is set for release sometime next year; Netflix’s political thriller film adaptation of The Last Thing He Wanted starring alongside Anne Hathaway and Willem Dafoe; Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel opposite Matt Damon and Adam Driver; and the thriller film Deep Water.
