BREAKING: Andy Serkis in Talks to Play Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman!

TheWrap is reporting that Golden Globe nominee Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings franchise, The Planet of the Apes franchise, Black Panther) is currently in talks to play Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, starring alongside Robert Pattinson who will be playing the titular character.

Serkis would join a cast that also includes Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle aka Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, and Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon.

Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler, friend, and his legal guardian has previously been played by William Austin, Michael Gough, Michael Caine, and Jeremy Irons in live-action adaptations, as well as Ralph Fiennes voicing the iconic character in two animated features.

Reeves will direct the Warner Bros. Pictures film, and also co-wrote the screenplay alongside writer Mattson Tomlin. Reeves is producing alongside Dylan Clark. Michael E. Uslan will serve as executive producer.

The Batman will begin production in January 2020 in the UK. The movie is scheduled to release on June 25, 2021.
