Dog: Channing Tatum to Star in & Direct Road-Trip Comedy

Deadline is reporting that Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street, Foxcatcher, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) will star in Dog, a road-trip comedy tracking a former Army Ranger and his dog. Tatum will co-direct the feature with Reid Carolin (Magic Mike, White House Down, Logan Lucky), serving as Tatum’s directorial debut.

Tatum is set to play Army Ranger Briggs, who, alongside his companion Lulu, a Belgian Malinois, haul down the Pacific Coast in time to catch their best friend’s — and handler’s — funeral. One of them has a week to live, the other lives like every day is his last. Together, they’ll drive each other insane, break a small handful of laws, narrowly evade death at the hands of some overly aggressive pot farmers, confront the possibility that pet psychics are real, teach each other how to love again, and give each other a chance for a new life.

The script is co-written by Tatum and Carolin alongside Brett Rodriguez. Tatum and Carolin will produce alongside their Free Association partner Peter Kiernan as well as Gregory Jacobs.

Principal photography on the feature is scheduled to begin in spring-summer 2020.
