Kelly Marie Tran joins the voice cast of The Croods 2
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran has officially joined the voice cast of Universal Pictures’ forthcoming family comedy The Croods 2, a follow-up to the 2013 Academy Award-nominated animated feature. Tran will be playing the role of Dawn, who is the only child of the Bettermans. Her character’s parents will be voiced by new cast members Leslie Mann (Blockers) and four-time Emmy winner Peter Dinklage.
“From the moment Kelly stepped behind the mic, we knew we had found our Dawn Betterman. She brings the perfect mix of quirkiness and heart to the role and is a perfect addition to our incredible cast,” Director Joel Crawford said in a statement.
In 2021, DreamWorks Animation invites you on an all-new adventure back in time with The Croods 2. The sequel will see the return of the first film’s voice cast consists of Nicolas Cage (Mandy), Emma Stone (Maniac), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool 2), Catherine Keener (Kidding), Cloris Leachman (American Gods) and Clark Duke (I’m Dying Up Here) as The Croods face their biggest threat since leaving the cave: another family.
The sequel will be directed by Joel Crawford with Mark Swift set to produce.
In the first film, the world was introduced to the first family of the prehistoric era, The Croods. The Academy Award-nominated comedy about a clan dealing with their changing world captivated global audiences, reminding us of the timeless importance of family… and just how little we’ve evolved.
The development of the film has been a long tormented road, with production initially set for two years after the release of the first film, but release dates continually were pushed back before DreamWorks announced its cancellation back in November 2016. Following Universal’s acquisition of the animation studio, it was announced production had been revived with its new 2020 release date.
The Croods 2 will be making its debut in theaters on December 23, 2020.
