Samara Weaving to play Scarlett in G.I. Joe spinoff Snake Eyes!

Following the addition of Haruka Abe for an undisclosed role, The Wrap reports that Ready or Not star Samara Weaving has signed on for the role of Scarlett in Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming G.I. Joe spin-off film Snake Eyes, starring Crazy Rich Asians breakout star Henry Golding, who is set to take on the titular role. In addition to Weaving, Japanese actor Takehiro Hira (Love Girls and Love Hotels) has also been cast as the spinoff’s main villain.

The role of counter-intelligence expert Shana M. O’Hara/Scarlett was previously played by Rachel Nichols in 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Weaving is an Australian actress who is best known for her role in the award-winning drama film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri which she starred alongside Academy-Award winners Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell. She will next be seen in the action-comedy Guns Akimbo and the sci-fi comedy Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Weaving and Hira will also be joining previously announced cast members Andrew Koji (Warrior), Iko Uwais (The Raid, Stuber), and Úrsula Corberó (Money Heist), portraying the roles of Storm Shadow, Hard Master and the Baroness, respectively.

Snake Eyes is the ninja commando known for his deadly ability with a sword and trench knives. However, he is also a highly skilled martial artist who can be just as dangerous unarmed. Snake-Eyes was living in solitude in the High Sierras when he was recruited to join G.I. Joe. His real name and backstory have long been sources of mystery. As a result of being caught in a helicopter explosion, he is heavily scarred and mute. To hide his face, he usually appears in a black balaclava and matching bodysuit.
