How To Train Your Dragon’s Dean DeBlois to Direct Micronauts Movie

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that How to Train Your Dragon writer/director Dean DeBlois will write and direct the long in-development Micronauts movie for Paramount. The project marks DeBlois live-action feature debut, having previously worked on the three How To Train Your Dragon movies and Lilo & Stitch.

The “Micronauts” toys were originally launched in Japan as “Microman” but were re-imagined for America by Mego toys and in a Marvel Comics series as subatomic-sized warriors. Micronauts was originally dated for a October 16, 2020 release but will now bow in theaters on June 4, 2021, opening against Warner Bros.’ Sesame Street movie.

It was previously announced that Paramount was set to merge all of their Hasbro action properties into one “Hasbro Cinematic Universe,” combining the likes of G.I. Joe and Micronauts, but also Visionaries, M.A.S.K. and ROM: SpaceKnight. It remains to be seen if those plans remain for the series, but there was no mention of it in the trade’s story.
