Sonic the Hedgehog redesign

Sonic The Hedgehog Redesign Will Please Fans, Says Producer Tim Miller

After the world got the first look at the CG rendition of Sonic the Hedgehog, the reaction was not kind. As a result, the film was delayed its release date by several months so the effects team can go in and rework the character.

It was the right decision, says Tim Miller, who serves as a producer on the film. In an interview with Variety, Miller said that he’d seen the Sonic redesigns and that he thinks “the fans will be pleased” by the new look.

After the initial backlash, Miller explained how he approached director Jeff Fowler about the situation. “Look, I was with fans and so was Jeff. When the s**t hit the fan, I went over there and said, ‘The most important thing to do, man, is say, ‘I f**ked up.” He’s a good man. It was exactly the right way to handle that. The fans have a voice in this too. There’s a right way to listen.”

The cast for Sonic the Hedgehog includes Jim Carrey as Sonic’s rival, Doctor Robotnik/Eggman, James Marsden as Tom Wachowski, a police officer who teams up with Sonic; Adam Pally (The Mindy Project) as Tom’s fellow police officer, Tika Sumpter, and Natasha Rothwell. Ben Schwartz (Parks and Rec) provides the voice for Sonic in the film.

Sonic the Hedgehog and his all-new (as-yet-unrevealed) look will now hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, 2020.
