Amandla Stenberg to Star in Fear Remake for Universal

Deadline reports that The Hate U Give star Amandla Stenberg has officially signed on to star in Universal Pictures‘ remake of the 1996 thriller movie Fear which, previously lead by Mark Wahlberg (The Departed) and Reese Witherspoon (Big Little Lies).

The Fear remake will be adapted by Academy Award-nominated writer Jonathan Herman with Brian Grazer set to produce again through his Imagine Entertainment banner. Karen Lunder of Imagine Entertainment will also produced the film.

In the original film, the story first began when a 16-year-old girl named Nicole instantly falls in love with the handsome, sweet and charming David, whom she met through her best friend Margo. However, as their relationship progress, Nicole soon finds out that David has darker side to him which is far different from the perfect guy she thought he was.

Fear was directed by Jason Foley. It also starred Alyssa Milano (Melrose Place), William Petersen (CSI: Crime Scene Investigation) and Amy Brenneman.

Stenberg had first gained recognition through her role as Rue in the popular sci-fi action film The Hunger Games starring alongside Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence. Her other credits include the romantic drama Everything, Everything; the 2018 dystopian thriller The Darkest Minds; and the critically-acclaimed drama The Hate U Give opposite Regina Hall, Common, and Anthony Mackie.
