Ghostbusters prequel

Dan Aykroyd Reveals He Wrote a 60s Set Ghostbusters Prequel

You can’t keep a determined franchise down. While director Jason Reitman is currently making a Ghostbusters film, which will be a sequel to the first two films, and ignore 2016’s Ghostbusters: Answer the Call, franchise co-creator Dan Aykroyd has more plans up his sleeve.

In an interview with 660 News, Aykroyd revealed that he’s already written a prequel to Ghostbusters, which would feature the film’s three lead characters, which were portrayed by him, Bill Murray, and the late Harold Ramis.

“I’ve written Ghostbusters High where they meet in New Jersey in 1969 and we’re looking to do that as probably a glorified feature or pilot within the next maybe five years,” said Aykroyd. “And it would lead to a television project and I thought of [Jason Reitman] immediately for that. It’s on his desk but that’s years away from the current project. But it’s a neat idea for a prequel. Imagine casting the three characters as teenagers!”

It’s not entirely certain that this 60s-set Ghostbusters prequel will ever come to fruition, but either way, Aykroyd is tirelessly enthusiastic about the franchise’s future.

“We have at least one or two other concepts for the Ghostbusters and then we’ll look at doing the prequel, which will be a perfect button on all we’ve done up to that point.”

In addition to helming the project, Reitman is co-writing the script with Gil Kenan (Monster HousePoltergeist), who is no stranger to ghost stories.
