Report: Robert Pattinson May Be the Next Batman

Earlier this year, the era of Batfleck passed when Ben Affleck confirmed that he has stepped aside from his role as the Dark Knight. Now, Variety is reporting that the next Batman has been found. Former Twilight star Robert Pattinson is reportedly the top pick to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in The Batman.

The report notes that Pattinson’s deal hasn’t been signed, so nothing is final yet. However, Pattinson is “expected to close [the deal] shortly.” At 33, Pattinson wouldn’t be the youngest Batman on the big screen. Christian Bale was only 31 when Batman Begins was released in 2005. But if Pattinson is the choice, it would fulfill director Matt Reeves’ desire to tell a story about a younger Batman. Affleck portrayed an older Bruce Wayne who had spent two decades as the Dark Knight.

Since his breakout role in the Twilight films, Pattinson has largely stayed away from blockbuster films. His credits include Maps to the StarsQueen of the Desert,

LifeThe Lost City of Z, and Good Time. More recently, Pattinson starred in High Life, a sci-fi/horror film that was released earlier this year.

The Batman is currently slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Once the title role is settled, other casting announcements should quickly follow. Variety indicates that the film may begin pre-production this summer.
