Den of Thieves: Pantera Being Financed by New Studio

The heist movie Den of Thieves is officially getting a sequel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the followup to the 2018 film will see Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson reprising their roles, with director Christian Gudegast also returning to helm the project. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson will also return, but in some sort of production capacity.

The sequel was first announced in February of last year, though the first Den of Thieves was financed via STX Films, eOne and Tucker Tooley Entertainment will fund its sequel.

Den of Thieves marked the directorial debut of Gudegast (London Has FallenA Man Apart), who helmed the film based on his original screenplay, which was written after a story he co-wrote with Paul Scheuring (Prison Break: The Final Break).

The film starred Butler (300Olympus Has Fallen), Jackson (War DogsSpy) and Jackson, Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), along with Pablo Schreiber (13 HoursThe Manchurian Candidate), Evan Jones (A Million Ways to Die in the West8 Mile), Cooper Anderson (I Hate My Neighbor!), Maurice Compte (A Walk Among TombstonesEnd of Watch), Kaiwai Lyman-Mersereau (American ViolenceWestworld), Mo McRae (WildThirteen), Meadow Williams (Apollo 13) and Brian Van Holt (WildS.W.A.T.).

A Los Angeles crime saga in the vein of HeatDen of Thieves followed the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the LA County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew as the outlaws plan a seemingly impossible heist on the Federal Reserve Bank of downtown Los Angeles.

The Den of Thieves sequel is expected to start filming later this year.
