Mel Gibson and Shia LaBeouf Team Up for Satire Rothchild

Mel Gibson is teaming up with Shia LaBeouf for the satire Rothchild from Stan & Ollie director Jon S. Baird, according to Deadline.

The film, which was initially a 2014 Blacklist script written by John Patton Ford, follows a man named Becket Rothchild (LaBeouf), who tries to get back into his family’s riches — and avoid a collision course with patriarch Whitelaw Rothchild (Gibson) in the process — by infiltrating the strange world of the extremely wealthy and powerful.

Unified Pictures will produce the project with Keith Kjarval (Dragged Across Concrete) and Tyler Jackson (What They Had) with an eye to start production in New York in September.

“Rothchild is a satirical and thrilling ride, and I am elated to be working with a filmmaker like Jon Baird, who not only has an incredible track record of guiding award-winning performances, but is crafting this film to be an action packed cautionary tale on wealth and power,” said Kjarval.

This is just the latest in a long series of projects for Gibson, who was recently cast alongside Kate Bosworth in Force of Nature, and the Santa Claus dark comedy Fatman.
