Endgame holds #1 spot for third weekend, nears $2.5 billion worldwide

Avengers: Endgame held onto the #1 spot at the domestic box office with another $63.1 million, bringing its US total to $723.5 million and passing Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther to become the highest grossing MCU movie in the US. The film is now the #3 highest grossing movie in the US, behind Avatar ($760 million) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936 million). Internationally the sequel added another $102.3 million for an international total of $1.762 billion and a global total of $2.485 billion, with Avatar’s $2.787 billion the only record standing in its way.

Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Detective Pikachu debuted in second place, bringing in $58 million and marking the highest opening for a Pokémon movie even when factoring in inflation. Directed by Rob Letterman the film stars Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe, Suki Waterhouse, Rita Ora and Golden Globe winner Bill Nighy.

MGM’s The Hustle debuted at #3 with $13.5 million. Directed by Chris Addison and written by Jac Schaeffer the film stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson with Tim Blake Nelson, Alex Sharp, Ingrid Oliver, and Emma Davies.

Sony and Screen Gem’s horror-thriller The Intruder slipped into fourth place for the weekend, bringing in $6.6 million and giving it a domestic total of $20.97 million. Produced on a budget of $8 million, the film is already in the green and will likely pull a decent profit as it serves as counter programming to Avengers and Detective Pikachu. Dennis Quaid, Meagan Good, and Michael Ealy star in the film.

Lionsgate and Point Grey’s romantic comedy Long Shot took in an estimated $6.125 million this weekend, dropping just 37% and bringing its domestic total fo $19.736 million. Directed by Jonathan Levine and written by Dan Sterling and Liz Hannah from a story by Dan Sterling, Long Shot stars Seth Rogen, Charlize Theron, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Andy Serkis, June Diane Raphael, with Bob Odenkirk, and Alexander Skarsgård.
