Marry Me: Jennifer Lopez & Owen Wilson to star in STX rom-com
Deadline is reporting that Golden Globe nominee Jennifer Lopez (Selena, Shades of Blue, The Boy Next Door) will lead STXfilms upcoming romantic comedy Marry Me, with Oscar nominee Owen Wilson (The Royal Tenenbaums, Wedding Crashers, Father Figures) in talks to star. The movie is an adaptation of the graphic novel by Bobby Crosby.
Described as Notting Hill meets The Proposal, the story centers on a pop superstar (Lopez) who, moments before marrying her rock-star fiancé at Madison Square Garden, finds out he was cheating with her assistant and spontaneously melts down onstage and picks a random math teacher (Wilson) out of the crowd to marry instead. What starts as a goof ends up becoming an exploration of relationships, expectations, and destiny.
Marry Me will follow Lopez’s previous projects with STX, including Second Act and the upcoming drama Hustlers. Kat Coiro (Shameless, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Mick) will direct from a screenplay by John Rogers and Tami Sagher with a rewrite by Harper Dill.
Lopez, Rogers, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina will produce, with Willie Mercer, Alex Brown, and J.B. Roberts serving as executive producers. Kate Vorhoff and Catherine Hagedorn will oversee production for STXfilms.
