Sony Releasing Ghostbusters Steelbook With Rare Deleted Scenes

It’s been 35 years since fans found out who they were gonna call. In honor of the comedy’s anniversary, Sony is releasing an all-new steelbook for the original to Ghostbusters films packed with brand-new special features including never-before-seen deleted scenes, as announced by Slash Film.

The first film, which hit theaters June 1984, followed a group of parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City. One thing leads to another and the group must fight against an evil paranormal force seeking to bring about an apocalypse. Starring Bill Murray (The Dead Don’t Die), Dan Aykroyd (Get On Up), Harold Ramis (Stripes), Ernie Hudson (Nappily Ever After), Rick Moranis (Spaceballs), and Sigourney Weaver (Avatar), the film was written by Aykroyd and Ramis and directed by Ivan Reitman (Draft Day). Ghostbusters became a runaway success, earning rave reviews from critics and audiences and grossing nearly $300 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.

It went on to spawn another financially successful but critically disappointing 1989 sequel, a large number of video games, three animated series, and a 2016 all-female reboot that was generally well-received by critics, but received mixed reviews from audiences and was considered a box office bomb. A third film, co-written and directed by Reitman’s son Jason, tied back to the original two films is currently set to begin production in June starring McKenna Grace (Captain Marvel), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Carrie Coon (Avengers: Infinity War).
