To All the Boys I've Loved Before Sequel Lands New Director

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that the upcoming sequel to the acclaimed Netflix teen romance To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has found a new director in the form of Michael Fimognari, who is taking over for previous director Susan Johnson.

Fimognari, who was the director of photography on the first film and is known for frequently collaborating with Mike Flanagan as cinematographer on Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill HouseGerald’s Game, Ouija: Origin of Evil and Before I Wake, will make his feature directorial debut on the project. Johnson will return to the project in an executive producer capacity.

“Directing To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film,” Johnson said in a statement. “Due to the timing of my other projects I won’t be directing the sequel, but as an executive producer, I am looking forward to continuing to share Lara Jean’s story and being part of this franchise.”

In addition to landing Fimognari as director, the sequel has signed on Anna Cathcart (Descendants 3), John Corbett (Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll) and Janel Parrish (Pretty Little Liars) to reprise their roles from its predecessor.

“I’m so thrilled and thankful we get to keep telling Lara Jean’s story. I just know that the audience will fall in love with her all over again,” source novel author Jenny Han said.

The sequel, which is set to be based on the second film in Han’s book series P.S. I Still Love You, is being scripted by Sofia Alvarez, who scripted the original film, and will also feature the returns of Lana Condor (Alita: Battle Angel) and Noah Centineo (Charlie’s Angels).
