Avengers: Infinity War had no VFX

Less than 3% of Avengers: Infinity War Had No VFX

Avengers: Infinity War cleaned up earlier this week at the 2019 Visual Effects Society Awards for its groundbreaking work on photorealistic effects. Now, it’s been revealed just how many shots in the third Avengers movie had zero added effects. According to Visual Effects Supervisor Dan DeLeeuw, who spoke with CinemaBlend, not many.

We’d come in on the weekends and then we’d scrub through the film and see what they’ve (The Russos) done, and see what’s tweaked and what’s not. And so during the scrub, if we hit a shot that doesn’t have a number on it yet — because the number means there’s visual effects on it, you kind of check it out and make sure there’s no effects, and we’re like, ‘Yeah!’ We got to cheer like 80 times. 80 out of… well, there’s 2,623 visual effects shots in the film.”

So, with over 2,700 total shots in the film, and only 80 that had no effects, meaning less than 3% of the scenes in Infinity War were shot as-is, without digital enhancements.
