Mike Colter and Nafessa Williams join cop thriller Black and Blue
Deadline reports that Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Nafessa Williams (Black Lightning) have joined the rather large ensemble for Screen Gems’ cop thriller Black and Blue. The duo join Naomie Harris (Rampage), Frank Grillo (Captain America: Civil War), Reid Scott (Veep), Beau Knapp (Destroyer), and Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) in the film.
Black and Blue follows a rookie cop (Harris) in New Orleans who accidentally stumbles on some fellow officers murdering a drug dealer, an incident captured by the body cam on her uniform. When they then fail to execute her she escapes and is hunted throughout the night by the narcs who are desperate to destroy the incriminating footage.
Colter last starred in the Netflix series Marvel’s Luke Cage, but has a list of credits to his name including Men in Black 3, Million Dollar Baby, Salt, and Zero Dark Thirty. Along with Black and Blue, the actor has the films Breakthrough, Before You Know It, and Fatale on the schedule.
Williams, who plays Anissa Pierce, aka Thunder, in the TV series Black Lightning, has appeared in the Twin Peaks revival and the 2017 film True to the Game, among other projects.
Black and Blue will be directed by Deon Taylor from a screenplay by Peter A. Dowling. Sean Sorensen will produce for Royal Viking Entertainment alongside Hidden Empire Film Group, Taylor’s own production company with partners Roxanne Avent and Robert F. Smith. Avent will serve as executive producer while Eric Paquette oversees the project for Screen Gems.
