Jumanji Sequel Adds Danny DeVito

Following the recent announcement that Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) has joined the cast of Sony Pictures’ Jumanji sequel, Danny DeVito (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Dumbo, The One and Only Ivan) has also been added to the project, Variety has confirmed.

“The magic of Jumanji is who becomes who. And the idea of Danny DeVito joining our cast was too irresistible and something we knew we wanted to deliver to our audience this upcoming Christmas. Dwanta Claus loves everyone,” said star Dwayne Johnson.

Dwayne Johnson officially announced the release date for the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel via his Instagram, revealing that Jumanji 3 is set for December 13, 2019. The film will see the return of the main cast that includes Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black along with director Jake Kasdan. The December 13th date will also give the movie at least a week in theaters before Star Wars: Episode IX is released.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle brought in over $960 million worldwide, over 3.5x the worldwide gross of the original film from 1995, and became Sony’s highest-grossing domestic release of all time (just barely passing 2002’s Spider-Man). The film was #1 for four weekends, including three in a row and was the first December wide release to be #1 on a February weekend since Titanic in 1998.
