Allison Janney Signs On For Bad Robot’s Lou

The Hollywood Reporter has brought word that Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney (I, Tonya) has officially signed on to star in the upcoming thriller Lou for Bad Robot Productions.

Written by Maggie McGowan and directed by Anna Foerster (Outlander), the story follows a young woman and her titular landlord as they team up to track down her daughter, who’s been kidnapped by her estranged husband, being described as a mix of Thelma & Louise and Taken.

Janney will portray Lou, who is described as a hard-shelled and rule-breaking woman that has unexpectedly impressive tracking abilities and other skills, while the role of the young mother has yet to be filled. The film was originally set up at Paramount Pictures, who have almost exclusively worked with Bad Robot Productions, but the studio put the movie into turnaround and now the production company is seeking to raise funding the finance the movie independently, with a spring 2019 start to production set.

Janney had the start of her big comeback in 2013 with the CBS sitcom Mom alongside Anna Faris, for which she has won two Emmys in its six-season run, followed by starring roles in many acclaimed films including The Way, Way BackSpyFinding Dory and I, Tonya, which earned Janney her first Oscar nomination and win. She will next be seen in the psychological horror film Ma alongside The Help co-star Octavia Spencer, the dramedy Troupe Zero alongside Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis (Widows), the animated theatrical adaptation of The Addams Family and dramedy Bad Education alongside Logan star Hugh Jackman.
