F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender Is The Night Gets Series Adaptation at Hulu

Deadline reports that Hulu has officially acquired the rights to F. Scott Fitzgerald’s fourth and final novel Tender Is The Night. The streaming service is in the process of developing a limited series adaptation of Fitzgerald’s novel with Colin Callender to serve as executive producer through his Playground Entertainment (Little Women, King Lear) banner.

Tender Is The Night tells the story of a young married couple who moves into a villa in the South of France where they start a glamorous life of partying with friends. Dick Diver is a promising young psychiatrist who has married 16-year old Nicole Warren, one of his patients who suffers from schizophrenia. However, Diver’s life soon takes a turn after series of events including; being accused of seducing the 15-year daughter of one of his patients: and his affair with Rosemary Hoyt, a beautiful 18-year old American actress who fell in love with him in France; and his worsening drinking problem.

The novel was published in 1934 which was Fitzgerald’s first novel in nine years. Fitzgerald wrote the story during the darkest years of his life and it was said to be inspired from his own experiences.

Scott Huff along with David A. Stern of Sleeping Giants Films are also set to executive produce the limited series.

Fitzgerald is considered as one of the greatest American writers of all time. He is best known for his other works such as The Side of Paradise, The Beautiful & The Damned and The Great Gatsby. The latter was adapted into film in 2013 which starred Leonardo DiCarpio (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Carey Mulligan (The Seagull) and Tobey Maguire (Spiderman).
