The 15 Best Modern Black and White Movies
Having recently seen James Mangold‘s new black and white cut of Logan (retitled Logan Noir), we were thrilled with how well the conceit of desaturating the superhero blockbuster worked. Given the new interest in the form, we thought we’d recap what we believe to be The 15 Best Modern Black and White Movies, all made from 1980 to today, which you can check out in our gallery below!
This also happened to coincide with the Criterion Collection‘s brand new Blu-ray edition of Francis Ford Coppola’s underappreciated 1983 masterpiece Rumble Fish. Matt Dillon and Mickey Rourke star in the YA gang story, which features incredible black and white photography and terrific supporting performances from the very young Nicolas Cage, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.
