3 Dead Trick or Treaters: Stylish, macabre arthouse horror anthology reveals first official trailer
Canadian filmmaker Torin Langen has been steadily making a name for himself for his odd, eccentric and totally singular work that blends a kind of earthy, dark American folk horror style with a unique obsession with dollar store Halloween iconography. Though he’s best known in festival circles for his co-directing gig on anthology feature Late Night Double Feature, for his first official feature film, he’s cobbled together a movie that is entirely reflexive of his personal obsessions. That movie is the macabre, dialogue-free, four years in the making horror anthology freak-out 3 Dead Trick or Treaters, and we have your first look at the trailer this morning.
Synopsis: After stumbling upon the graves of three murdered trick or treaters, a small town paperboy discovers a series of handwritten horror stories tacked to the children’s headstones. Penned by a deranged pulp author driven mad by his craft, the stories chronicle grisly tales of Halloween rites, rituals and traditions. Absent of dialogue and heavy on atmosphere, 3 Dead Trick or Treaters is an anthology chiller unlike any you’ve seen before.
Says Langen: “3 Dead Trick or Treaters is a fusion of mood-driven experimental filmmaking and kitsch Halloween imagery. In whole, the project is an expression of isolation and the anxiety that comes with it; characters struggling with morality under horrifying circumstances. This is merged with my love for dime store monster masks, silent storytelling and underground music.”
The film has just begin its festival tour and will be screening at the Shock Till You Drop co-sponsored Falls Horror Fest at Niagara Falls Comic Con on Sunday, June 4th at 2PM.
