CS Video: Interviews with the Pete’s Dragon Cast

Interviews with the Pete’s Dragon cast

The 1977 Disney film Pete’s Dragon was a musical adventure featuring a young orphan with a dragon friend only he could see – for the most part, anyway. It’s a beloved classic, but the new version is very, very different. This time around, in this non-musical version, a little boy named Pete (Oakes Fegley) loses his parents (tragically, so make sure you pack your tissues), and ends up living in a forest for years with an adorable, furry dragon he names Elliott. He’s found by a kind park ranger named Grace Meacham (Bryce Dallas Howard) and goes to stay with her, her fiancé (Wes Bentley) his young daughter Natalie (Oona Laurence). Grace doesn’t believe the stories of dragons in the forest, but her father (Robert Redford) has been spinning tales of his encounter for years. The thing is, the dragon is real and there are those (Karl Urban) who just can’t let a lovely thing exist without trying to capture it.

We recently got to talk to the Pete’s Dragon cast, including Redford, Howard, Laurence and Fegley. The kids talked all about the pretty harrowing stunt work they had to do, working with a fully CGI dragon, as well as the fun they had on set. Dallas told us about working with these kids and what the film means to her. Redford talked all about doing a Disney film, his feelings on children’s films in general and the environmental message here. He talks about another Disney film, Bambi, and the impact it had on him.

Check out our video interviews with the Pete’s Dragon cast below and stay tuned later in the week for our chat with Bentley. Are you guys excited to see Pete’s Dragon? Did you love the classic film? Let us know in the comments.

Pete’s Dragon opens in theaters on Friday, August 12.
