CS Video: Adam Sandler and the Cast of Pixels

Adam Sandler & The Cast of Pixels on the Video Game Alien Invasion Flick

A sense of nostalgia is permeating the mainstream right now which can be seen by the public’s appetite for pop culture centered around stuff from the ‘80s – just look at some of the movies being released this summer as proof.

Adding to the list is Sony’s new action-comedy Pixels, which capitalizes on the ever-growing love people have for old arcade games like Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Centipede and uses them to put a modern twist on the alien invasion movie.

It stars Adam Sandler as Sam Brenner, who as a kid almost became the Donkey Kong champ of the world. Thirty years later, his best friend Will Cooper (Kevin James), now the President of the United States, calls upon Sam and their childhood friend, conspiracy theorist Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), to answer the challenge when Earth is threatened by aliens using video games to create mayhem and destruction.

They also have to work with Sam’s arrogant childhood nemesis Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant, played by Peter Dinklage, and the government’s own specialist, Lt. Col Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan) to try to beat the aliens at their own games.

ComingSoon.net spoke with Sandler, James, Gad and Monaghan from Dave & Buster’s restaurant and game arcade in New York’s Times Square this past weekend, mainly focusing on their characters and their own video game playing chops, but we also got to ask Sandler about his deal with Netflix and why he decided to shift his focus away from theatrical releases.

You might have watched the video above and thought “Josh Gad looks familiar, but who does he look like?” so in the video below he breaks the (fake) news that he’s preparing to take over a popular comic book character:

Pixels opens nationwide on Friday, July 24, with previews on Thursday night, July 23. Look for our interview with director Chris Columbus later this week.
