CS Video: The Cast of Mark Wahlberg’s The Gambler

We already know what movie won’t be opening in theaters on Christmas Day, but one movie that’s still good to go is the remake of The Gambler, starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).

Like the original 1974 movie starring James Caan, Wahlberg plays Jimmy Bennett, a college professor with a gambling problem who has become in debt to a Korean casino owner, who has given him a week to pay off his debt. Jimmy goes to dangerous loan sharks like Neville Baraka (Michael K. Williams) and Frank (John Goodman) to try to get help, while back in class, he has begun a relationship with his student, Amy Phillips (Brie Larson), potentially putting her own life in danger.

ComingSoon.net previously spoke with Rupert Wyatt a few weeks back, but at the New York junket, we got to sit down with actors Michael K. Williams and Brie Larson to talk about their roles in the movie, as well as talk to Wyatt about the logistics of making a movie that focuses on Wahlberg’s interactions with a supporting cast that pop in and out of the film.

The Gambler opens nationwide on Thursday, Christmas Day, with previews starting on Thursday night.
