How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2 is officially in the works. Here’s what we know about the sequel and who will be back for The Grinch 2 cast.
This past week, it was reported that Universal Pictures was officially returning to the world of the Grinch. A sequel to 2000’s classic live-action take on Dr. Seuss’s iconic story is in the works. Better yet, Jim Carrey is set to reprise his role as the titular Grinch, with Ron Howard also set to return to direct the sequel. While reportedly a very tough process to put the makeup on to become the Grinch, Carrey seems ready to step back into the role.
Confirmed The Grinch 2 cast
As noted above, Carrey will likely be back to step into his old, uncomfortable Grinch suit once again. THR notes that he’s “in talks” to star in the film, which usually means a deal is close. Carrey’s portrayal of The Grinch is one of the most iconic adaptations of the character, even though it was not fun at all for him. Infamously, Carrey talked about how much he hated getting into the outfit, wanting to quit on the first day and even employing a man who trained CIA agents to withstand torture to help him get used to the makeup process.
Luckily for Carrey, the makeup department on the movie got the process down to three hours a day, making it more manageable. It’s unclear how the process would work this time around, or even if they would commit to such a lengthy practical method with so many other options available.
Unconfirmed The Grinch 2 returning cast
Outside of Carrey, pretty the rest of the cast of How The Grinch Stole Christmas 2 is unknown as of now. The original film had a star-studded ensemble, including Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Landry Allbright, Taylor Momsen, Bill Irwin, Clint Howard, Mindy Sterling, Rachel Winfree, Molly Shannon, Jeremy Howard, T.J. Thyne, Jim Meskimen, Mary Stein, Deep Roy, Rance Howard, the late Verne Troyer, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anthony Hopkins in a voice role.
Of course, getting all these people back seems like it would be a tall task. Several of the stars, like Momsen, have also aged since then, so it’s unknown how their characters would return. Although, it seems impossible to do a second Grinch movie without Cindy Lou Who showing up, so we’ll have to wait and see.
