Exclusive: Maika Monroe on It Follows’ fifth anniversary & possible sequel
While chatting with the 27-year-old actress for the Quibi thriller series The Stranger, ComingSoon.net got to reflect with Maika Monroe on the fifth anniversary of the acclaimed indie horror pic It Follows and discuss the possibility of a sequel. The video can be viewed in the player below!
Written and directed by David Robert Mitchell, the film centered on teenager Jay as she has sex with her boyfriend, only to subsequently learn that he has passed a virus to her that results in her being followed by a dangerous supernatural entity who will stop at nothing to kill whoever has it.
Alongside Monroe, the cast for the film included Keir Gilchrist (Atypical), Daniel Zovatto (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels), Jake Weary (Animal Kingdom) and Olivia Luccardi (Viena and the Fantomes). It Follows made its debut at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival before a wide release in March 2015 and received rave reviews from critics upon release for its suspenseful approach to terror, original and layered story and performances from its cast, namely Monroe, and was a box office success, grossing over $23 million on a $2 million budget.
A follow-up film has been discussed a few times by Radius-TWC Co-President Tom Quinn since the film’s success, though no official word has come out in the years since about whether another film is in the works or whether Mitchell and the cast are being eyed to return.
The Stranger is available to stream in its entirety on Quibi now!
