8 Times CGI Made Actors Look Like Something Out Of A Wax Museum (With All Due Respect To Madame Tussaud)

Comingsoon.net is taking a look at some missteps in the evolution of de-aging CGI. Check out our picks in the gallery below!

CGI has been used for everything from realistic-looking spaceships, aliens, and explosions to vast landscapes that do not exist. The most recent implemented of CGI helps older actors and actresses regain what they once thought was lost: their A-list looks. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.  CG artists almost always run the risk of producing something that looks like it belongs in a wax museum (or video game).

Madame Tussaud has a similar profession to that of a special effects supervisor; both occupations try to make the inanimate indistinguishable from the animate. As Madame Tussaud gets better at this, so does CGI (shout out to Marvel). Pretty soon you won’t be able to tell the difference between James Dean and his wax-like counterpart…for now, we’re still painfully aware of these touched up or digitally reanimated moments. Relive some of the most jarring animations below.
