NYCC Exclusive: Zoey Deutch on Vampire Academy

Zoey Deutch enjoyed stints on “The Suite Life on Deck” and “Ringer,” and starred in the YA-to-film adaptation Beautiful Creatures, but Vampire Academy could be a career-changing project.

Based on the Richelle Mead novel, Vampire Academy features Deutch as Rose Hathaway, a human/vampire hybrid known as a Dhampir. As a Dhampir, Rose is required to attend St. Vladimir’s Academy as a guardian-in-training for a Moroi vampire, specifically, Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry). Making Rose and Lissa a standout pairing is the fact that Rose is “shadow-kissed,” meaning she’s got a special bond with Lissa that allows her to read Lissa’s thoughts and better protect her.

Vampire Academy is based on book one of a six-book series, so should the February 14, 2014 release go on to become a hit, Deutch could have a massive franchise on her hands.

After thrilling VA diehards at the film’s New York Comic Con panel (check out our recap here), Deutch sat down with ComingSoon.net to discuss the transition from Beautiful Creatures to Vampire Academy, the pressure of defying expectations and becoming the optimal Rose, the keepsakes she snagged from the set and loads more. Catch it all in the video interview below.
