CS Video: Danny Trejo and Alexa Vega Talk Machete Kills!

Although this Friday’s release of Machete Kills is a sequel to 2010’s Machete, it’s actually the seventh big screen appearance of Danny Trejo’s intensely badass alter-ego. Created by writer-director Robert Rodriguez shortly after he and Trejo first met, Machete’s first feature appearance was as “Uncle Machete” in Rodriguez’s Spy Kids in 2001, reappearing as such in all three franchise sequels. It wasn’t until 2007, however, that the R-rated Machete debuted as a fake trailer at the beginning of Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse, teasing a trilogy of hard-R actioners, Machete, Machete Kills and Machete Kills Again (now titled Machete Kills Again… In Space!).

ComingSoon.net sat down to speak about the new film with Trejo and co-stars Alexa Vega and Marko Zaror. Another familiar face to fans of Rodriguez’s bigger-than-life universe, Vega played Machete’s niece, Carmen Cortez throughout that franchise and now makes her debut as the decidedly-more-adult KillJoy (In the below interview, we ask them both if Machete sees the resemblance). Zaror, meanwhile, shows off his impressive martial arts skills in the film, playing multiple clone henchmen in the command of Mel Gibson’s Voz. Check out their interviews in the player below!

Also starring Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Lady Gaga and “introducing Carlos Estevez,” Machete Kills hits theaters this Friday, October 11.
