POLL RESULTS: Should the MCU Eventually Try a 3rd Dark Phoenix Movie?

20th Century Fox‘s X-Men film franchise has produced two films based on Chris Claremont and John Byrne’s 1976 comics storyline “The Dark Phoenix Saga.” Both of those films, 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand and this past weekend’s Dark Phoenix, were not particularly well-recieved, but now that Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios has control over the X-Men property the question remains: Do fans want to see a third version of the Dark Phoenix story set in the MCU? If so, how long should Marvel Studios wait to remake it? ComingSoon.net asked our readers both these questions and over 2000 of you responded! Check out the official results below!

Should the MCU eventually do their own movie version of the Dark Phoenix Saga?

YES! Someone finally needs to get this iconic story right on film! (53%, 1090 votes)

NO! It’s been run into the ground already, try adapting other X-Men stories! (47%, 948 votes)

Although there’s a slight advantage to fans who want to see the Dark Phoenix Saga played out for a third time by the MCU, this is pretty split down the middle.

How many years should Marvel Studios wait to redo Dark Phoenix?

10-years, that’s plenty of time to build to it! (39%, 730 votes)

5-years, let’s get to it already! (20%, 369 votes)

20-years, by then the first two versions will be forgotten! (19%, 350 votes)

15-years, I want them to firmly re-establish the characters! (17%, 320 votes)

0-years, do it again right now! (6%, 111 votes)

It seems that a majority of our readers are willing to wait a decade to see Dark Phoenix again onscreen. Those wanting to see it 5, 15, and 20 years from now are about evenly split, but we can’t believe there are over 100 of you that actually want a new version of Dark Phoenix RIGHT NOW!

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix brings back much of the cast of the new films including James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey) and Evan Peters (Quicksilver).

Simon Kinberg wrote and directed the film, marking his directorial debut. He produced alongside Lauren Shuler Donner and Hutch Parker.

The last installment to Fox’s X-Men film franchise is now playing in theaters everywhere.
