Monsta X Anniversary: Debut Date & Song of K-Pop Act Explored

K-pop group Monsta X is celebrating their 9th debut anniversary on May 14. The Korean music act ‘survived’ the seven-year K-pop curse, and fans are emotional on the special day, reminiscing about how far the group has come.

Monsta X was formed from the debut survival show No Mercy, a collaboration between Starship Entertainment and Mnet. The show had thirteen contestants, seven of whom debuted as Monsta X after making it to the final lineup. The group has six members: Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney, and I.M. Earlier, Lee Ho-Seok, aka Wonho, left the group in 2019.

Monsta X debuted on May 14, 2015, with the EP Trespass, which included the title song of the same name. Before their official debut, the group released the pre-debut song Interstellar as part of their No Mercy show.

Monsta X’s debut in K-pop made a significant mark in the music industry. The group showed effortless ease in acing contrasting themes. Since their debut, Monsta X has released four studio albums, twelve extended plays, and many singles. Monsta X has also dropped two English albums, All About Luv and The Dreaming, along with Korean music albums.

Among Monsta X’s most successful releases, Take.1 Are You There?, No Limit, Shape of Love, and Reason topped the Circle Album chart, depicting the group’s impressive growth in the music industry.

Along with commercial performances, Monsta X earned many accolades throughout the years. The group received its first major recognition in the 2016 Genie Music Awards, winning the Next Generation Artist Award. Later, the group won Style In Music and Worldwide Fans’ Choice Top 10 awards in 2018.

Monsta X maintained their career high amid the group’s various changes, including Wonho’s departure and members leaving on military hiatus. The group won the Best Stage award at the 2020 MAMA and Best Performance Award at the 2020 Melon Music Awards.
