Seventeen Military Enlistment: Pledis Shares Major Update on S.Coups Military Service

Seventeen‘s music label, Pledis Entertainment, has shared a significant update on S.Coupsmilitary enlistment. The leader of Seventeen was on a hiatus after his knee injury in August 2023.

Pledis Entertainment recently shared an update on S.Coups’ knee injury. The rapper, singer, and dancer needed anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, anterolateral ligament reconstruction, and post-surgery treatment. After almost a year of hiatus, S.Coups, aka Choi Seung-Cheol, joined the group. He will participate in Seventeen’s ‘FOLLOW’ tour at Incheon on March 30 and 31, 2024, along with bandmate Jeonghan.

On March 1, Pledis shared another update informing fans that Seventeen’s leader has been exempted from military duty.

Why is Seventeen member S.Coups exempted from military service?

As per Seventeen’s label, S.Coups will not have to go through his mandatory military service duties. The agency noted, “Due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee joint, S.Coups underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery and anterolateral ligament reconstruction surgery.”

“Because it was a major surgery, he has been undergoing physical rehabilitation therapy for a long time, starting from last year up until now.”

Due to his ligament injury, he has been classified as ‘Grade 5.’ As per South Korean military law, men in Grade 5 are exempt from mandatory military service during peacetime. In case of a war emergency, they will have to support the military through assistance.

With this, S.Coups joins a list of Korean male celebrities exempted from mandatory military service for various reasons.

Earlier, K-drama star Seo In Guk was also excused from the military after enlisting due to his medical condition. He reportedly had a severe ankle injury. Later, reports stated the 36-year-old had Osteochondritis dissecans, which is a joint condition.

Another famous K-drama star, Jo Jung Suk, did not have to serve in the Korean military due to his financial conditions at home. The actor’s father passed away in 2000, which led to the actor quitting school and start working to help his mother.

Uncontrollably Fond actor Kim Woo Bin did not just battle cancer in the drama but also in his real life. He was fighting Nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017. This made the government reconsider his enlistment and exempt him from the duty.
