Interview: K-Pop Girls Group Weeekly Talks US Tour, New English Single ‘Stranger’ & More

ComingSoon Entertainment journalist Arpita Adhya talked to K-pop supergroup Weeekly in an exclusive interview about their first English single, “Stranger,” their upcoming United States tour, and the group’s friendship that keeps them motivated to face any challenge.

Weeekly has been on a steady path of success since its debut in 2020. The K-pop group’s latest EP, ColoRise, garnered critical appreciation and sold over 72,250 copies within the first week of its release, charting in the top 10 of South Korea’s Circle Album Chart.

The girl group is ready to embrace new challenges four years after their debut. They released their first English single, “Stranger,” on January 25, 2024.

Arpita: From your debut EP, We Are, to your recent single “Stranger,” you have shown your growth as an artist. What was the most challenging part about making Stranger?

So-Eun: For “Stranger,” we had the Korean and English lyrics versions. One of the challenging parts about making the song was putting the exact feelings into both versions. The Korean and English lyrics are different; there’s a different meaning to both versions as well. So, we needed to overcome the difficulty of emoting the same feelings in both songs.

Also, it was our first time releasing a song in English. So, we wanted to focus on English pronunciation as well.

Arpita: Weeekly is famous for its upbeat energy on stage. Be it their music or live performances, Weeekly members always impress fans with their uplifting spirit. What sort of preparations do you go through for your live stages?

Zoa: I think all of our members would say that our fans give us the energy that we can bring to stage. Their support brings the best out of us, so we can work hard every single day and sing songs. So it is Daileees who uplift us.

Monday: Also, it is our members’ chemistry that helps us show our energy on stages and on albums.

Arpita: 2024 has started, and fans are looking forward to all of Weeekly’s upcoming projects. Can you tell us something about your 2024 plans?

Soojin: We are planning our first US tour this year. So we are practicing a lot. We are also preparing a new album. So, our fans have much to look forward to, and they will be swamped this year with all of our content. (Laughs), I hope so!

Arpita: Can you give us a spoiler or teaser from your next album and the upcoming US tour? A sneak peek of the concept?

Soojin: (With a smile) This is a massive spoiler for our upcoming US tour. All six members of Weeekly will be on stage, and we will dance and sing! (All members join in the laughter).

So-Eun: Wow!

Zoa: Hahaha, sorry!

Arpita: That is a big spoiler! Since you announced your US tour, social media has been excitingly buzzing! Fans want to know more about it; they are waiting for the details to drop. So, what message do you have for fans waiting to meet you in person on the US tour?

Soojin: We are preparing hard for our U.S. tour. We want to ensure our audience does not regret visiting our tour and spending their precious time and money seeing us. We will make it very fun; please look forward to it!

The dates and details of the tour have yet to be confirmed. But when we finalize the dates, Daileees will be the first to know!

Arpita: Your fans also want to know if the members plan to go into acting or release solo albums.

So-Eun: All the members are interested in releasing their solo albums or maybe exploring acting in the future. But for now, we are focusing on our efforts as a six-member group Weekly to maximize our strength and bring out the best in us to show our fans. Our priority right now is Weeekly as a group first.
