Newjeans Wins Top Global K-Pop Artist Award at BBMAs 2023

South Korean girl group NewJeans has made quite an impact on the K-pop industry since their debut in 2022. Now, the group has been making waves globally, from the Billboard charts to social media with their hit tracks “Ditto”, “OMG”, “Super Shy”, and “ETA,” among others, their presence is undeniable.

On Sunday, November 19, 2023, NewJeans took home the Top Global K-pop Artist award at the Billboard Music Awards, beating some of the biggest names in the K-pop industry, including Jimin (BTS), Stray Kids, TWICE, and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. Consisting of Danielle, Hyein, Haerin, Minji, and Hanni, the girl group expressed their gratitude for the award in their Billboard Music Awards speech.

Receiving the new top global K-pop artist award at the 2023 BBMAs is an important milestone in the career of NewJeans, especially in a category where the nominees included BTS’ Jimin, TXT, Stray Kids, and Twice.

In their acceptance speech, Hyein said, “Thank you so much for giving us the top global K-pop artist award”. Hanni continued the speech as she shared, “We have been nominated in this category alongside such incredible artists we look up to. It’s an honor in itself. We are so grateful for this opportunity to perform at the Billboard Music Awards.” Minji also explained the significance of the award, saying, “a reminder to us of all the love and support we receive from our fans Bunnies.”

NewJeans perform their hit singles ‘Super Shy’ & ‘OMG’ at BBMAs 2023

Apart from winning a significant award, NewJeans also took the 2023 BBMAs stage by storm as they performed their global hits “OMG” and “Super Shy”. The girl group kicked off their performance in stylish schoolgirl ensembles.

They started dancing to electronic music in solo booths. They soon stepped onto the grand stage with their backup dancers to perform the choreography of “Super Shy”. Their fans, who are called Bunnies, sang the official fan chant in the audience during the track, which made their performance even more iconic.
