Frankly Speaking: Everything To Know about Go Kyung-Pyo & Kang Han-Na’s New Netflix K-Drama

Frankly Speaking (a.k.a No Secrets) is a new South Korean drama on Netflix and JTBC. Starring Go Kyung-Pyo and Kang Han-Na, the romance comedy series revolves around an obedient anchor named Song Ki-Baek whose life turns upside down after a minor accident.

Ki-Baek is an announcer for a broadcasting news channel. He is an ideal example of a professional, kind, ambitious, and all-rounder employee. He meets On Woo-Joo (Kang Han-Na), an entertainment variety writer. Desperate to save her job, she brings in Ki-Baek for a variety show.

Things get complicated when, one day, he gets electrocuted. The polite 33-year-old man’s behaviour takes a U-turn as he cannot stop saying brutal truths. He now speaks without thinking, affecting his image at work. However, it makes for a good variety show for Woo-Joo.

Frankly Speaking cast & characters

Frankly Speaking is a romance comedy introducing a new chaotic duo — Go Kyung-Pyo as Song Ki-Baek and Kang Han-Na as On Woo-Joo.

Kyung-Po plays Ki-Baek, a single 33-year-old news announcer at a broadcasting channel. He is a well-known anchor with a kind and polite attitude. He showcases his all-rounder skills when he is approached for a variety show. This doesn’t sit well with TV writer Woo-Joo, who argues with him.

During the argument, Ki-Baek touches an open electric board and ends up electrocuted. Meanwhile, Kyung-Po is a well-known actor known for appearing in Reply 1988, Seoul Vibe, D.P., and Private Lives.

After the incident, Ki-Baek fails to stop himself from speaking his mind. He says brutal truths without thinking, which affects his work life.

Frankly Speaking also stars Kang Ha-Na as On Woo-Joo, a variety TV writer who needs a project to save her job. She finds Ki-Baek, but things don’t go according to her plan when she witnesses an all-rounder. Her luck changes after Ki-Baek gets electrocuted. His new personality makes for good content for Woo-Joo’s variety show. Actress Han-Na is known to star in Start-Up, My Roommate is a Gumiho, and Designated Survivor: 60 Days.

Aside from the aforementioned lead actors, the new K-drama cast also includes:

  • Joo Jong-Hyuk as Kim Jung-Heon
  • Shin Jung-Keun as Song In-Soo
  • Kang Ae-Shim as Na Yoo-Jung
  • Hwang Sung-Bin as Song Woon-Baek
  • Lee Jin-Hyuk as Song Pung-Baek
  • Go Gyu-Pil as Yoon Ji-Hoo
  • Baek Joo-Hee as Own Bok-Ja
  • Lee Bom So-Ri as Lee Ha-Young

The director of the drama is Jang Ji-Yeon, and the screenwriter is Choi Kyeong-Seon.

Frankly Speaking release date, time & more

Frankly Speaking premieres on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 8.50 p.m. KST on JTBC. The K-drama will also stream on Netflix.

The show’s synopsis on Netflix reads, “A well-respected announcer suddenly loses his ability to self-censor on air, catching the attention of a TV writer who invites him on her variety show.”

On Tuesday, April 30, 2024, the cast and crew held a press conference to promote the new series. Speaking about the show and his role, Go Kyung-Pyo said, “This is a drama that you can watch without feeling tired. It’s like a sitcom, an interesting drama you can sympathize with”.

He further explained that if he could relate to his character, “I don’t have any boss in my daily life. People around me are mostly colleagues, sometimes seniors. There’s no one who obstructs me like a boss. Although I’m already 35 years old, I still find many things cute. Instead of just sympathizing with others, I tried to understand people’s feelings and convey comfort.”

Frankly Speaking, it consists of 12 episodes and a new episode is airing every Wednesday and Thursday on JTBC and Netflix.
