My ID is Gangnam Beauty Ending Explained: Does Cha Eun-Woo’s K-Drama Have a Happy or Sad Ending?

My ID is Gangnam Beauty is a 2018 romance K-drama, starring Cha Eun-Woo and Im Soo-Hyang in lead roles. The storyline revolves around a college student who tries to change her life after getting plastic surgery.

Cha Eun-Woo plays the handsome yet stubborn character of Do Kyung-Seok while Im Soo-Hyang portrays the role of Kang Mi-Rae, who has had plastic surgery. The Netflix synopsis of the series reads, “Bullied for her looks, Mi-Rae gets plastic surgery hoping for a better kind of life but faces new challenges in college. Based on a hit Korean webtoon.”

In the finale episode, the lead characters are in a relationship but they still have to face challenges. Mi-Rae’s friend and college mate Hyeon Sua (Jo Woo-Ri) has earlier made her life miserable and has also tried to hinder Mi-Rae’s relationship with Kyung-Seok. However, the ending shows Sua realizing her mistake, hence, viewers can expect a happy ending.

Netflix K-drama My ID is Gangnam Beauty Episode 16 (finale) begins with Mi-Rae (Im Soo-Hyang) home alone with Kyung-Seok (Cha Eun-Woo). They share a kiss before she goes to her room to sleep. In the middle of the night, her parents call but the phone is in the living room where Kyung-Seon is sleeping.

After failing to wake Mi-Rae, he picks up the call and introduces himself as Mi-Rae’s boyfriend. Her parents seem impressed with their daughter’s choice. The next morning, the lead couple returns to their respective dorms. Meanwhile, Sua (Jo Woo-Ri) has locked herself in her room, indicating that she is depressed. Despite Yoo Eun’s (Park Yoo-Na) suggestion, Sue prefers to stay home.

On the other hand, Woo-Young (Kwan Dong-Yeon) learns that Sua’s stalker has shared inappropriate pictures of her online. He tries to take them down but fails to do so. Sue refuses to file a complaint against the stalker, which complicates the case. Yoo Eun, however, wants to help Sua and thus seeks Mi-Rae’s help. But the latter is reluctant to think about Sua as she has caused a lot of trouble for her in the past.

While the two girls try to figure out the situation, the stalker approaches Sua outside her house. Woo-Young discovers that Sua is in danger and rushes to save her. Meanwhile, Mi-Rae, Yoo Eun, and Kyung-Seok too have a bad feeling and thus run to Sua’s aid. While Cha Eun-Woo’s character catches the stalker, Mi-Rae saves Sua from killing herself.

For context, Jo Woo-Ri’s character thinks her stalker has sprayed acid on her face to ruin her beauty. Hence, she wants to end her life as she has always believed that beauty is the most important thing in the world. But Mi-Rae helps her to change her perspective.

My ID is Gangnam Beauty Ending: What happens between Cha Eun-Woo & Im Soo-Hyang?

My ID is Gangnam Beauty’s ending is quite satisfying. Sua accepts her flaws and decides to work towards her mental health. The lead characters, Mi-Rae (Im Soo-Hyang) and Kyung-Seok (Cha Eun-Woo) become an official couple at college. Additionally, the remaining supporting characters also get their happy ending.

The K-drama ends with Mi-Rae celebrating Kyung-Seok’s birthday and gifting him a couple’s hoodie. The next day, the two wear the hoodies at college while their friends tease them. Overall, the finale ends on a happy note.
