Is Song Kang’s My Demon Based on a Webtoon?

SBS K-drama My Demon, starring Song Kang and Kim Yoo-Jung, is becoming popular not only because of its characters but also its narrative. The gripping storyline and the balance of fun and intense moments have hooked viewers to the series. The K-drama follows the story of chaebol heiress Do Do-Hee (Kim Yoo-Jung), who falls in love with demon Jung Gu-Won (Song Kang). Although the duo enters a contractual marriage for their own reasons, they eventually fall in love.

The plotline for My Demon might look like it is based on a webtoon. Considering many recent K-dramas have been webtoon-inspired, the Song Kang starrer could have been understood to have taken bits and pieces from a webtoon. However, My Demon is not based on a webtoon and is an original romantic comedy with supernatural elements and fantasy. This combination of genres makes this series popular apart from the storyline itself. Although there is a webtoon of the same name by mariru, the drama has a different plot.

What is Song Kang’s My Demon About?

Following an unusual love story, My Demon stars Song Kang and Kim Yoo-Jung as the lead couple. Demon Jung Gu-Won is over 200 years old and looks down upon humans. He makes sweet deals with humans, manipulating them into signing contracts. Once the contracts end, he takes their lives. The demon lures them through greed, which Gu-Won knows will have the humans sign the contract.

However, Gu-Won’s powers and life completely change once he meets chaebol heiress Do Do-Hee. Do-Hee is Madam Ju’s (Kim Hae-Sook) adopted daughter and the CEO of her successful company. However, she has enemies within her adopted family. Do-Hee meets Gu-Won during her blind date, but he eventually keeps saving her life. Knowing the demon’s identity, Do-Hee hires him as his bodyguard.

After Madam Ju’s death, which raises suspicions, Do-Hee promises to find the killer. Madam Ju urges Do-Hee to get married within a year for her to take over as the chairperson. Do-Hee proposes to Gu-Won, but he initially rejects it. However, after almost losing her, he agrees to get married. From then on, the duo continues their investigation into finding the culprit behind it and slowly falls in love.

To see their journey, watch My Demon every Friday and Saturday at 10 p.m. KST on SBS and Netflix.
