Rowoon’s The Matchmakers premiered on October 30, 2023, featuring him as Shim Jung-Woo, a nobleman known to be resentful. He was forced to marry the princess who died during their wedding ceremony. According to the Joseon custom, a widower from the royal family is not allowed to land a government job or remarry.

In the first episode, Jung-Woo spends eight years as a widower, trying to annul his marriage. His actions irk the king, who punishes him towards the end of the episode. In The Matchmakers episode 2 preview, he is called a traitor. However, he seems to interpret the insult differently, remarking, “Finally, my road to success has opened up.”

Jung-Woo meets Cho Yi-Hyun’s Yeo Joo in the premiere episode. Living a dual life as a prestigious family’s widow and as a matchmaker, she is not fond of Jung-Woo from the beginning. However, the direction of the wind may change in the upcoming episode.

The K-drama trailer features Jung-Woo finding his calling as a matchmaker and seeking Yeo Joo’s help. Although she is reluctant to guide him, the clip ends with her touching his face. She says, “A noblewoman can only have one husband. I want to see you, my dear husband.” While it seems like she is delusional, the chemistry between the two is heart-fluttering.

Rowoon’s The Matchmakers episode 2 will air on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at 9:45 p.m. KST on KBS. The K-drama will also be available to stream on Viki.
