Netflix K-Drama Doona! ‘Making of’ Video Explains Bae Suzy’s Doona Casting

The highly anticipated Netflix K-Drama Doona! premiered last week on the streamer. After a successful release, the makers recently shared the “making of” video that contained behind-the-scene moments.

Doona! stars Bae Suzy as Lee Doona and Yang Se-Jong as Lee Won-Jun. The latest drama is about a retired K-pop idol and a college student, portraying two people from completely different worlds. 

In the Doona BTS video, director Lee Jung-Hyo revealed details on how and why Suzy was the perfect cast for the complicated role. The titular character is a person dealing with anxiety after she quits her career and lays low. Won-Jun’s entry into her life changes her world upside down.

Netflix Doona! behind-the-scenes video explains casting decisions

Bae Suzy garnered appreciation for her challenging role in the latest Netflix K-drama, Doona! She essayed a retired K-pop idol who falls in love with a regular college student, Lee Won-Jun. The series sheds light on the struggles of a young K-pop idol.

Explaining Suzy’s casting in the “making of” video, director Lee Jung-Hyo said, “When I decided to work on Doona!, I had the same thought as everybody else, ‘Suzy is the only one for the role.’”

He further mentioned that he wanted viewers to see how beautifully the actress portrayed the character. He hoped that fans sympathize and understand Doona.

Jung-Hyo moved on to explain Yang Se-Jong’s Won-Jun. The character is innocent and pure and thus the director wondered where he would find the perfect actor for the role. He said, “Yang Se-Jong is always serious, and he expresses his feelings without hesitation. That’s why Se-Jong was quite suitable for the role of Won-Jun.”

Suzy and Se-Jong’s personalities suited their characters and eventually helped them to play their roles efficiently. Doona! consists of nine episodes and is currently available to stream on Netflix.
