Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited web series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, is gearing up for release soon worldwide. Renowned for his larger-than-life movies, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is gearing up to impress audiences once again with Heeramandi. So far, this Netflix original series, slated for release on May 1, 2024, has generated significant buzz since its announcement. 

While the release date is confirmed, speculation has been rife regarding Heeramandi’s exact release time. According to sources like USA Today, the series will premiere on the afternoon of May 1, around 12:30 p.m. IST. For viewers in the United States, it will be available at 3 a.m. EST or 12 a.m. PT.

The series will revolve around the world of Heeramandi, a district pulsating with culture and intrigue against the backdrop of India’s tumultuous freedom struggle in the 1940s. It also promises to transport viewers to an era where courtesans held sway, their artistry commanding admiration and respect.  

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar will show the power struggle for control over the district, led by characters like Mallikajaan (played by Manisha Koirala) and Fareedan (played by Sonakshi Sinha). Amidst this battle for succession, characters like Alamzeb (played by Sharmin Segal), Waheeda (played by Sanjeeda Shaikh), and Lajwanti (played by Richa Chadha) add to the dynamic of drama and intrigue. 

Alongside them, the show will also feature Aditi Rao Hydari as Bibbo and Fardeen Khan as Wali Mohommad. Additionally, Adhyayan Suman as Zorawar, Taha Shah Badussha as Tajdar, and Shekhar Suman as Nawab Zulfiqar complete the main cast.

In other news, Bhansali described Heeramandi as his “biggest” project to date during a recent interview. He expressed his excitement about the shift to OTT, where he could explore the details of storytelling in greater depth. “This story has taken the longest—18 years of nurturing, cherishing, and living it,” he remarked, reflecting on the journey leading to the series’ fruition.
